How to Work with Furniture in a Combination Space

by Waverly Wilde

Have you ever had to play tetris with your furniture because your kitchen and living room areas were combined? Or maybe your entire studio is one big room. Sometimes you have to get creative with your furniture placement when working with a combination space and it can be very difficult if you don’t have the appropriate pieces. A combination space is when you have one room that performs as two or even three rooms. Makes furnishing pretty hard, huh?

At our store, we provide every size and style of furniture you can imagine to help you out in times like these. All you need is a little strategy when furnishing your room to find a way to make it feel less overcrowded and more open. Follow these tips to get the most space when buying furniture for your, well, space.

A Multi-Purpose Table

What’s one piece of furniture that your kitchen, dining room and living room all have in common? They tend to have a table placed smack dab in the center of them. So, if you are dealing with a combination space, getting a multi-purpose coffee table where the top lifts for more convenient eating would be extremely functional. This would eliminate your dining room table and designate your living room coffee table as your new place to chow down.

You’ll also be able to use the multi-purpose coffee table as storage too! Stash away remote controls, blankets, board games, books, and so much more, making your lounging experience that much better.

The Right Seating

Now that you have a perfect table for your combination space, you’ll need some good seating that won’t make you feel claustrophobic every time you enter the room. Futons are fantastic pieces of furniture because they are perfect for passing as a couch and also can pull out to be a bed. This is ideal for people who have a combined bedroom and living room, passing as a sofa during the day and conveniently pulling out and turning into a cozy bed at night.

Although, if a futon doesn’t appeal to you, there is also the option of getting two comfy chairs and two ottomans. These pieces of furniture are perfect if you don’t tend to have too much company over, they are good for relaxing in, and they don’t take up much space at all.

If you still aren’t sure what kind of seating you need, stop into our store and we’ll help you figure out what seating would work best for your home!

TV on the Wall

In order to give yourself some more space, do what you can to remove as much clutter as possible. For example, if you have a TV in your combo space, purchasing a wall mount for your television will help open up your room a bit. The same goes for framed photos your have sitting on side tables. Remove the photos from the end tables and hang them on the wall – that way your space will appear more organized even though you barely had to do anything! And with everything removed from your side tables, you’ll be able to decide if you really need all these end tables anymore. Keep one or two but remove the rest so your space feels less stuffed.

Every home has its quirks, whether it’s a combination space you need to work with or you happen to be looking for the perfect sectional with very specific dimensions, we have the furniture to fit into any lifestyle. If you are looking for the right table, chair, couch, or something else, we’ve got the furniture to help make your home look exactly the way you want it.
